About Penny

I was born and raised here in Madison. Being a “townie” gives me a great perspective on our city, and Madison College’s importance to our community.

My college years were spent at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. I studied fine art, earning a BFA in painting and drawing. Although I loved fine art, I realized I needed the stability of a full time paycheck. That’s when I ventured into Graphic Design.

My first graphic design job was in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It was there I was introduced to the second love of my life, the Macintosh computer!

I went on to work in a number of graphic design jobs, including Art Director for Swiss Colony Stores, Graphic Designer for the University of Wisconsin-Engineering Professional Development, Graphic Designer for a small advertising agency in Middleton and a variety of freelance work. During this time I also became part of the adjunct faculty here at Madison College, which eventually led to a full time position.

I still take on freelance projects, primarily web design related. To contrast all that nit-picky coding, I like to get away from the computer and get my hands dirty (and bloody) creating mosaics. Running is my other sanity break from the computer.

I’m honored to be part of this wonderful group of students and instructors.
